A Question of Sex: Sexy Novels Without Sex?

Sexy_MouthI’ve been doing some thinking about revamping a novel I wrote a while back, rethinking the plot, etc.  But here is a question at large:  would you, as a reader, get angry reading a novel that has a lot of sexual tension in it between the main characters if it turned out that the two characters finally decided not to have sex?

In other words, can there be a sexy novel without a sex scene?

Have you ever read a sexy novel that didn’t capitulate in a sex scene, whether implied or not?  I’ve gotten some suggestions: Girl With A Pearl Earring, and Animal Dreams.  Have you got any others?

  1. I like the idea. I’m all for letting tension brew and bubble to add to the toil and trouble. But as a reader, I think if you build the tension up to much and nothing happens, you’d just leave me frustrated, and unsatified. I could make the argument that that’s where Fanfictions come in, but it so much more satifiying if the story gives me the satification it promised.

  2. I enjoyed everything was written on this blog,The author is undeniably well learned, witty and masters the tool of writing exceptionally well.I especially enjoyed the interpretation of KARMA given from this author, so well versed in oriental philosophy and I even share her criticism about our modern word of publishing and frankly I admire her for the faith and passion she puts in her art;
    I happened to read her first novel “the faithful son” as well her short stories and in general all her works and I am looking forward to read her last book “Safe in the head’ which I have already ordered from Amazon, but she states, with some difficulty.Bravo!
